Its ok to not be nice!

Posted on December 10, 2016

As the holidays approach and we are out and about shopping and visiting family, its good to keep an eye out on your surroundings to keep yourself safe.

When you are in the parking lots, walk with a purpose with your head up, and be confident.  The “bad guys” may be watching.  If you are busy on your phone or portray a weakness, you may turn into a target for the bad guys that scan parking lots for people just like you!

Keep an eye on your surroundings.  Be very wary of people coming up to you while you are at your vehicle.  If you sense a problem, just keep walking, go back to the store, don’t get cornered back at your vehicle.

Another trick that the “bad guys” may use is the interview process!  Anything from your walk, how you handle your body language, or your dress may show a villain that you would be an easy target……and here it goes!

The interview process preys on our desire to “be nice”

“Hey do you have a minute?”

“Whats the time?”

“Can you give me directions?”

“I am out of gas and I need $5 to get fuel to get my sick kid to the Doctor.  Can you help me?”

These questions can be set ups to get inside your personal space.

Not every person that asks you a question in public is a villain trying to attack you.  Maybe they really are out of fuel and need to get their kid to the doctor.  In that case, call the police or security for them as I am sure they would be happy to help.

The criminal is using your lack of wanting to cause a scene and allowing them to invade your personal space.  It is completely OK to get loud if someone is attempting to get close to you.  Keep your distance and space!
